Get Back To The Basics + Learning to Unplug
Last week was crazy! The hydroseed guys came, the fence guy came to re-measure, I had a dental appointment, then a dr. appointment, and trip to the vampire’s office.
The HH made multiple trips to the lumber store, Lucy had her spa day, I did some painting, a little gardening and some hooking too. There was NO extra time!
Which was good because I didn’t have any time waste online, but it was also a little too busy for my liking.
In The Kitchen
If you love London Fog tea as much as I do, you might want to look for these London Fog French ice cream bars in the freezer section the next time you’re at the grocery store.
Oh my! I bought them on a whim and they are lovely. 🙂
Kitchen Goals For This Year
- Master the pear frangipane tart from Standard Baking Company.
- Put my Weck jars to use.
- Use two bins of beans {working on it}
Rug Hooking
It was a decent week in the rug hooking department. I finished hooking a whale rug {which I’m in the process of turning into a pillow}.
I also made some progress on the giant whale rug I’m hoping to have done by the end of the month.
I’ve been setting a timer for an hour each night to work on it and so far so good. Sometimes it’s easier to work on a large rug that way. It seems less overwhelming if I just do a little at a time.
Rug Hooking Goals For This Year
Finish drawing out all my patterns, making kits, dyeing wool by March 31st.- Release 10 new rug hooking patterns/kits. {3 down 7 to go}
- Hook 27 of the patterns from the “someday I’ll hook these” bin. {4 down 23 to go}
Go New Places – See New Things
Travel Goals For This Year
- Travel someplace {internationally} that I’ve never been before.
- Travel somewhere in Maine {overnight} that I haven’t been before.
Places I’ve Been So Far This Year
- Boston {Birthday getaway}
- NYC
Walk And Stretch More
Lately I’ve been taking Lucy for walks in her pet stroller. Poor Lucy, her back legs are giving out and she can no longer go for long walks.
Just a little loop around the backyard and that’s about it. 🙁
But she loves going out in her stroller! I know I look like a total nutter but I don’t care. As long as she’s happy, and gets her sniffs in, that’s all that matters.
Walking/Stretching Goals For This Year
- Get into some sort of stretching routine
- Fast walk a 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon
Garden
The tulips we planted last fall in front of the picket fence should be ready to bloom in a few days. I am SO EXCITED!! Finally! A little color up front. I don’t remember how many we planted up front, maybe 150 or so? I guess we’ll find out soon enough.
I keep checking the Van Engelen website to see if ordering is open yet but it’s not. Hopefully soon though so I can place my order for next year’s bulbs.
I’m hoping this red, pink and white tulip mixture will be available again. Normally I’m not a fan of red tulips, but this combination is so cheery, I think it would look great out front.
Garden Goals For This Year
- Rework the driveway and garden areas {in progress}
- Go crazy and plant a ridiculous amount of flowers {working on it}
- Step out of my comfort zone and plant some flowers I’ve never planted before
Paint
The walls and the beadboard trim in the entry has been painted. Up next is the door trim and the trim on the floorboards.
Unfortunately I can’t paint the ceiling until we figure out the lighting situation. We know the ugly track lighting needs to come down {in the entire downstairs actually} but we haven’t looked into our options yet.
After I get the trim painted in the entry, I’ll repaint the front room. It’s already a chalky pale blue color, which I don’t mind, but there are so many holes and little dings in the walls that it needs to be repainted.
The HH and I both like “fountain spout” by Benjamin Moore. I am hoping to have the front room painted by this time next week.
After I get the walls painted in there then it will be time for the HH to refinish the floors! 🙂
How about YOU? How are YOUR goals coming along? Do tell.
