Everyone knows you should never go to Costco on an empty stomach, right?
Well, that’s exactly what we did last week and now I have a ham, six pounds of cheese and more Chex cereal than I know what to do with!
The thing is, I had ZERO plans on stepping foot in another store until after the holidays but we were near Costco and decided to pop by to fill up the gas tank.
And well… the store had just opened and there was hardly anyone there so why not go inside and see if they had their wreaths in.
One aisle led to another and before you know it we had a cart and didn’t I just say I needed some more pecans and sugar so I could make another batch of cookie dough?
Hey! Cream cheese is one sale. Is that red pepper jelly? Oh and the crab dip is back in stock.
OH MY WORD! Usually I have tremendous self control. But apparently not that particular day.
Costco $201.29
Oh and canned black beans! I’ve been wanting to make that recipe for black beans and rice again. Fresh cranberries! Yee-haw, I’ll make the cranberry coffee cake.
Fresh spinach? I haven’t bought it in over a year but let’s get some of that too!
No wreaths.. But hey, we have everything we need for a pickety bits party or a big dinner with guests.
Costco $77.21 {Trip #2}
Fast forward to yesterday and my friend calls to tell me that Costco now has wreaths in stock {$19.99} and they’re going quick!
So the HH hops in the car and picks up the six that we need and comes back with salad things and a giant package of beef.
All I can think is what a bust this week has been!
The HH didn’t seem to think so though.
Now we just have to wait until Costco gets their garland in stock. Fingers crossed there won’t be any room left in the car for anything else!
Steel cut oats, avocado toast and bacon and eggs. That’s what we had for breakfast this past week.
Some weeks I’ll take the time to make breakfast and other weeks it’s just tea and toast with jam.
Maybe it’s the weather, the darker days, the cozyness of it all that keeps me in the kitchen a little longer. I don’t know.
Do you pan fry your bacon or bake it? I always bake mine. It makes for an easier clean up in my opinion.
I need to make candied bacon again. It’s been a while.
Cold weather means tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches.
And pasta.
Have you tried the grain and celery salad from Costco? It’s wonderful. Tons of protein {grain, garbanzo beans} and oodles of fruit and vegetables.
I can usually get about 6-7 good sized portions out of it. Plus it has kale! Which is really good for you. And something I’d never buy and eat on its own. 😉
You know you’re craving BBQ when it’s windy and 40 degrees out and you’re still willing to drag the thing out and fire it up for a meal.
Husbands are weird.
Steak tips and spinach.
I used the leftovers on my big salad.
And of course pickety bits. Now that we’re flush with cheese and nuts we’ll probably be eating a lot more of them.
Have you done any big stock up trips lately? Find anything good? Any surprises jump in your cart? Curious minds want to know.
Have a great week monday everyone,
~Mavis

Oh Saturday night we hit Sam’s Club after a quick supper- $311 later we were pushing 2 carts out. I knew it would be a heftier stock up trip ( 5 living here 2 parents, 3 college kidults),
but they had the calcium chloride we need for the driveway when the snow flies!!! If we don’t buy it now we will never find it at this price when the snow hits!!
And husband finally admitted he needed new pillows…
A flat of TP and PT cause the laundry room shelf is almost empty of both-eek!
grabbed a bottle of probiotics and BOOM!
$100 off the bat and we have not touch food at all!
Some items were holiday buys only – Kinders brine kit and a pack of Kinders gravy( he is smoking the turkey and I don’t want to mess with gravy production!) replenished a few spice items we are almost out of- SPG, Pink salt, a new chicken seasoning blend.. OH! They had a bottle of vanilla bean paste cheaper than Costco- Yes please!…
The rest was fruit, yogurt and pantry items.. No meat or frozen this round!
lol
