Hi Mavis- I’ve been wanting to try this too! Thanks for posting it- I have one question (for some reason I can’t see if anyone has commented- so I apologize if it’s a repeat!) I just wanted to clarify that you don’t grease the pot at all ?
Thanks!
Mavis Butterfield says
Nope. I totally thought it would burn without greasing the pot too but it didn’t. The crust is AMAZING. You have to try this recipe. My daughter flipped out and now she wants me to make 2 for tomorrow! 🙂

Ohmyword…BREAD! I am all over trying this. I saw a few of these recipes with a whole lot of steps and felt overwhelmed by the process. Thank you for the visual aids/photos 🙂 I am going to mix this up right now to sit overnight for baking after noon tomorrow. Can’t wait 🙂

Let me know how you like it. We LOVE it. 🙂

I have been using this recipe for over 2 years. Jim Lahey from Sullivan Street Bakery (New York) has been using for many years. It’s great and so easy . . I have to make this recipe 2x a week because we both take cold lunches every day!
Jim also shared his spicy mustard recipe with this bread . . . OMG THAT’S JUST AS GOOD!!!
We love this recipe! There are many variations do try those as well!

Kim! I went to Sullivan Bakery while I was in New York and loved, loved, loved it! 🙂

Now I have a silly question, although I firmly believe the only silly one is the unasked one. Can this be made in a cast iron dutch oven? That’s all I have, I use it for many things but not bread yet, been too scared it would get funny taste. Thanks.
