Yesterday we drove out to the Dorr Mill Store to pick up another batch of wool. 400 yards of wool actually. The plan is to have all the wool dyed, folded, bundled and ready to go by the end of March. And so far so good. I’m on track.
As soon as the ground thaws, the only thing I want to be working on is garden stuff. Well, gardening and house projects.
I’ll still be hooking in the evenings, but as far as all the other stuff goes {dyeing wool, drawing patterns, making kits} I’ll be done. And what a good feeling that will be.
I love a good “craft” store. Although wool fabric is my thing, I really love other types of supply stores too. Especially knitting stores… And I don’t even knit.
So much wool! Sometimes I think I’d be happy just living in a warehouse with a bed and a kitchen in the middle of it.
Last winter I spotted a bag of wool fiber {for needlefelting} and thought it looked familiar. Then I realized it did.
The wool fiber looked just like the dryer lint I pulled out of the dryer. And then I had a thought… I wonder if I could use dryer lint for needle felting instead of buying it.
I mean, it’s the same thing, right?
So this winter as I was cleaning out the lint catcher I started to collect the colored dryer link. The plan was to make some needle felted ornaments.
Well, long story short, NO it doesn’t work. The texture isn’t the same and the wool dryer lint does not work for needle felting. 🙁
Oh well. At least I tried, right? Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
I am a firm believer that everyone needs a hobby. And I’m so glad I’ve found mine. I just wish it didn’t take up so much room.
But hey, only 400 more yards to go! The finish line is near. Only a month more to go!! Yee Haw.

P.S. Are you crafty too? What do you always seem to be working on. Curious minds want to know.

Wow! Did you fit that all into one vehicle? What a gorgeous display of wool – I’m primarily a knitter/crocheter/cross-stitcher, but have dabbled in rug hooking and needle felting too. I’d have loved just admiring.
The ornaments of dryer lint would have been pretty creative if it worked. I bet you could get un-dyed roving and dye to match whatever kit(s) you are making at the time, and make an ornament of the same picture/pattern. Would be a cool addition to your shop, or fun just for you to capture the different patterns/kits you’ve made over time.
Happy dyeing – you got this!
Just a random creative thought – those are the ones that get us in trouble!

Ha! Yes it’s the random ideas that can be fun (and rabbit holes too). Yes it all fit in the car with room to spare.:)

You may still think of an idea for the dryer lint, if not the birds in your neighborhood will have colorful nests!

That’s great to know what you love and keep at it! I love all sorts of crafts. I just don’t have much time to do them. I have 2 jobs. Lol. I love to crochet, draw, paint, etc. I love to get creative. You do a great job setting goals and completing them!
Bonnie in GA says
I wonder if you could stuff mini pillows with the lint? Lol.
Mavis Butterfield says
No, they would great too much dust. 🙁

Off topic, but what brand/style brown boots are you wearing in the photo? I’m on the hunt for new boots, and those look nice. Thanks.

Duck feet. They go on sale every November. That’s the time to buy them.

My craft projects include knitting sweaters for my pet chickens so they don’t get cold in the winter. I also donate sweaters to the local zoo for the penguins because I feel like they need something nice.

I have always read that dryer lint is dangerous for birds for a number of reasons, including absorbing water and dust can be toxic.

I always have several different projects going on. Currently, I’m rearranging my project room, so I can access my sublimation printer more easily. Also trying to sew curtains for the living room and bedroom. I want to cut fleece to sew blankets to donate to the place we adopted our last puppy from. I save the selvage and scraps to stuff in pillowslips to make washable beds.
I’ve also read dryer lint is not good to put out for animals to make nests from.
