A big heat wave is headed our way tomorrow with temps in the 90’s so I thought I’d better hop to it and pick some radishes and set out the trolley.
$2.00 per bunch seemed pretty reasonable to me. We’ll see if we get any takers.
Does anyone know how much fresh chives go for at the grocery store? I keep forgetting to look. I know the local nursery wants $45 {!!} for a rhubarb plant so $10 seemed like a steal to me.
Then again, maybe rhubarb are like zucchini and it’s something everyone is trying to get rid of? Who knows.
I love my little trolley. I’m going to set it up with buoys and lobster ornaments this weekend.
I hope the garden survives the heatwave.
The HH said he’s going to get up super early and water before it starts to really warm up. That and watering in the evening is about all we can do.
The carrots and beets are finally starting to get some height.
The lavender I planted last week seems to be settling in. I hope they do okay with the heat. I transplanted some chive plants and some of the leaves’ stems are starting to turn yellow but hopefully they’ll bounce back in a week or two.
Starting plants from seed and setting them out in the garden can be tricky sometimes.
But if there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, is that if you can be patient and allow your seedlings just a little more time than you think they need to pop back and grow some roots in their new soil, everything will usually work out fine.

The flowers on the benches could use a re-fresh, but I think I’ll wait until after the heatwave passes to add some more color.
Did I tell you I planted Shasta daisy seedlings in front of the cottage fence?
I think they’ll look spectacular next summer. And even better…. I won’t have to worry about planting anything else in that spot!!
Set it and forget it baby.
And one last thing, check out how well the grass has grown in between the parking strip pavers.
This area turned out much better than expected. And I think the grass pavers look 100 times better than asphalt or gravel.Everything is SO GREEN right now. I hope it lasts!!

Oh Mavis EVERYTHING looks so amazing and I am in love with Bird Cottage. Just looking at the picture of everything makes my heart hurt it is so beautiful. Also the pavers are just everything. You did good girl. Stay cool if possible we are to hit 100 today and by Friday 107 which is record breaking for the Mid Atlantic.

I’m envious of the rhubarb plants and I would scoop up several if I didn’t have to drive to Maine to get them. I’m also envious of the lawns! They look so lush and green. No so here, brown and browner due to lack of rain and I’m not inclined to waste water watering it. At least mowing has been on hold for the past 2 weeks. Happy Fourth everyone!

If your raised beds are metal they will get really HOT! Hose them off mid day and water extra.
