If you are in need of a little winter pick me up, I highly suggest a trip to your local garden center. Yesterday the HH and I popped by Estabrook’s garden center to walk around and look at the plants. And it was lovely.
Sometimes when it’s 10 degrees outside it’s hard to imagine that spring is right around the corner and you just need a little proof that the ground will thaw and things will bloom again. 😉
Typically around here things begin to thaw out in early April… So we don’t have too much longer to go.
Air plants. Do you have any? I’ve seen them in shops and restaurants but I don’t know anyone who actually has them in their home.
If you have one, are they easy to care for? Do they last a long time?
This orchid plant in the shape of a heart was probably the best thing I saw yesterday. What a clever idea.
And these pots! I wanted to pick up a few the last time I was at Estabrooks.
I love how worn and tired they look. They don’t sell matching saucers though… Otherwise I would have bought a few of them by now.
I pointed this bunny out to the HH and told him it would look fantastic in the Easter display.
He just rolled his eyes and walked away. 😉 I don’t think he’s too keen on hearing about my decorating plans anymore. Not that he ever was, but with this house especially. HA HA HA.
Potting bench inspiration.
Anyone into bonsai?
I wonder if you could grow olives in Maine if you have a greenhouse? It seems pretty impossible… But maybe I should look into it. You never know.
I’ve had lemon trees before and they’ve done really well, but an olive tree just seems to exotic, doesn’t it? I think if I had an olive tree I’d want an avocado tree as well.
If you had a greenhouse, what would you grow? At this stage in my life, if I had one I’d want it to be big enough to accommodate a chair and a small table so I could sit out there on a sunny day in winter and read a book and enjoy my afternoon cup of tea.
A girl can dream, right?
A winter pick me up. We could all use one right about now, don’t you think?
Have a wonderful day everyone, enjoy the sunshine.

I have several air plants. Some over 5 years old. I just rinse mine weekly, they like the shelf above my kitchen window. Funny here in the south our garden centers have next to no plants right now.

Air plants? I’ve killed a few. I put them on the sill over my sink; it didn’t help remind me to mist them (plus I don’t have a proper mister).
My kids snarks over my ability to kill plants, but I tell them they’re darn lucky I’m better with babies than plants…

I think your lobsters need bunny ears and Easter baskets.

That would be hilarious.

Yes, I have had air plants! They are lovely. They last years (mine about 6) if you care for them correctly. They need a moderately sunny location. You need a mist bottle to mist them at least every other day. And, once a week, you soak them in water for about an hour.

I tried an olive tree indoors. They need the exact lightning. Olive unfortunately didn’t make it. I knew the light was not enough, but tried.
Total fail. I feel bad for Olive.

We had an olive tree when I lived in NJ as a kid. It survived the winters, but produced only one olive . If you want the tree, I hope it will work out for you. But if you want olives, go to the store. My lemon and lime trees here in So Cal are shriveling up from lack of rain, but my orchids are indoors and starting their spring bloom. I love all the colors and the blooms will last for many weeks. Stay warm out there.!

My best friend who lives in New Orleans has two olive trees and they do well. Of course, last week when it snowed 8 inches, she had to cover them up!!! I hope the snow didn’t hurt them. She also has lemon trees.
