Yesterday The HH and I installed a boxwood border along the new stepping stone path and it turned out so nice! Previously in this area there were 3 very sad looking hydrangeas that were drowning in an 18” mound of mulch.
So we dug up the hydrangeas, removed all the old mulch, leveled the area off, and had stepping stones laid in the space to separate the driveway from the studio.
Clean and simple. Neat and tidy. Just the way I like it. 🙂
If you are looking for a great deal on boxwoods, we found ours at The Home Depot for $16.98 each. {The 1 gallon size was going for $25 each at the local nursery and were much smaller.}
I’m a sucker for the dwarf varieties. I like the look of a low boxwood hedge. Especially along a walkway.
I am SO GLAD it’s finally garden season. I love being outside and digging around in the dirt.
The weather around here has been crazy good lately! All I want to do is to work outside in the yard and soak up the sunshine.
I even went for a bike ride yesterday. Without my snowsuit! 😉
The forecast is calling for 2 inches of rain on Thursday though. Yikes! I hope everything doesn’t wash away. Maine weather can be sort of unpredictable though.
Half the time the forecast is right, and the other half it’s totally wrong.
I don’t think anyone really knows what’s going on.
The next big event around here will be hydroseeding. Have you ever had that done? We’ve never had it done before and are sort of nervous about it.
I hope everything goes okay. I’m just so happy all the asphalt and weirdo parking spaces out front are GONE!
Look at that boxwood border! Doesn’t it look great? Well done HH. All that measuring you did paid off. Well done. 🙂 What can we work on next? HA HA HA.
Sunshine and a high of 49 degrees. It’s going to be another beautiful day here in Maine. I can feel it!
Peace Out.

It looks absolutely amazing! Can’t wait to see the full picture. Love the gravel driveway … have always loved the sound of tires crunching on gravel. Usually means we’ve arrived at a vacation destination.

I’d also love to see a full picture!

That looks great!! How many did you use?

Here in Ontario, Canada, we have the boxwood moth problem. The moth kills the boxwood, and there is no cure. I have two large old ones that I do not want to lose, so I have been spraying them with a special spray, but all it does is kill the worm. It does not prevent reinfestation, so I have to spray every two weeks. Right now most of the leaves are brown, but there are some new green ones coming on. Most people have replaced their boxwoods with something else, but I like the size of these old ones, so I am trying to keep them going for awhile. I hope you do not get this in Maine.
There is a Hosta virus that we have to be careful about too. It kills the plant, but does not spread too easily. One has to dig that plant out, clean and disinfect your tools, and get rid of the old plant. I am not buying anymore hostas from nurseries because of it, and hopefully I do not get it.
Gardening, sometimes it is a battle!

It looks great!! Well done both of you – the layout and the execution of the changes!

Can you tell me more about the tool you used were using to dig with please?
Mavis Butterfield says
It was a post hole digger. 🙂 The HH loves it.

We did, but the geese had a buffet!
